Type Bites

I designed this poster from a typeface I created from cut-out and collaged scraps from a food magazine. The constraints of the project included using the handmade typeface I created, a quote related to the source material of the typeface, an 8.5x11 type spec sheet, and an 11x17 poster. I focused on creating a dynamic post-modern layout, using visual elements related to cooking to lead the viewer’s eye through the quote. I utilized pieces of scrap when creating each letter to increase visual interest in the type and better highlight its source material.

Candle Light
I designed this type spec sheet for the font I created. The font was inspired by researching 70s designs, slab serif fonts, and my fondness for lava lamps. The project’s constraints were to create a one-of-a-kind font with a personal connection in Illustrator and to use the site Glyphr Studio to create the OTF file with kerning of the letters a-z in both upper and lowercase. The project also required that I make a type spec sheet that included at least three different point sizes, the font’s name, a font concept description, all characters displayed, and my name.
